Manchester United welcome Tottenham Hotspur to Old Trafford on Saturday (Watch live, 12:45 p.m. ET on NBCSN and online via Live Extra) in the opening game of the new 2015-16 Premier League season.
United finished in fourth last season, six points ahead of Spurs in fifth, and will be the favorites to start their season off with a bang after several big-money signings this summer.
Entering Louis van Gaal’s second season in charge, Memphis Depay, Morgan Schneiderlin, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Matteo Darmian and Sergio Romero have all arrived, but one of the big issues for the Red Devils remains up top with Radamel Falcao and Robin van Persie no longer on the books. For Spurs, Mauricio Pochettino is also entering his second campaign as the boss at White Hart Lane but his young squad most rally around Harry Kane and improve defensively if they’re going to get anything from their trip to Old Trafford.
In teams news United start with new goalkeeper Sergio Romero instead of David de Gea as his contract saga continues, while there are also debuts for Matteo Darmian, Morgan Schneiderlin and Memphis Depay with Bastian Schweinsteiger only fit for the bench. As for Spurs, new signing Toby Alderweireld starts but goalkeeper Hugo Lloris is only fit enough for the bench.
