Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini was straightforward but pleased after a 3-0 win over West Brom on the road to start the season.
“It’s important to start winning, I always say that,” Pellegrini said after the match. “Normally, you are going to win the league or lose the league on one or two points, not more, so it’s important to start the strong way we did today, winning away, scoring three goals, and it was a clean sheet, so that means we are a consistent team. Now we must be thinking game by game and try to win the next one.”
Manchester City struggled at times during their preseason tour, but Pellegrini believes that those performances have nothing to do with how the team will do in official matches.
“It depends in the way you analyze the preseason,” said the Argentinian boss. “If in the preseason you are trying to have good scores, maybe it’s not the best preseason, but we’re not trying to win the games in preseason.”
Pellegrini was especially happy with two of his team’s star players – David Silva and Yaya Toure – who torched West Brom through the middle and down the flanks, and believes that more good things will come.
“I think that both of them [Toure and Silva] played very well, especially David. His first 30 to 35 minutes of the first half was an unbelievable performance. Yaya, we know what he can give our team every game, so I am happy for both of them.”
