Speaking to the media ahead of Arsenal’s trip to Crystal Palace on Sunday (Watch live, 8:30 a.m. ET on NBCSN and online via Live Extra), Wenger confirmed that Wilshere is ready to return in the next few weeks as fears of the severity of his injury have eased.
“We said Jack would be out for four weeks, and he’s in the second week now so he’s on schedule,” Wenger confirmed.
It was feared that Wilshere could miss up to two months out after he suffered a hairline fracture on a bone in his right ankle on the eve of the Community Shield win over Chelsea at the start of August.
However the England international, 23, could now return to Arsenal’s lineup for their game against Newcastle on St. James’ Park on August 27 (Watch live, 7:45 a.m. ET on NBCSN and online via Live Extra).

It’s more likely that Wilshere will return to action after the international break in early September, as Arsenal have a home game against Stoke on Sept. 12 and then travel to London rivals Chelsea a week later in what’s likely to be a huge battle between two title contenders.
Following their shock opening day defeat to West Ham United, the Gunners will want to get Wilshere back fit and ready to contribute as soon as possible as he finished last season in fine form and starred for the English national team with two goals against Slovenia over the summer.
Wilshere’s long-list of injuries over the past four years, especially to his ankles, have hampered his development but there’s no doubt that Arsenal is a better team with the academy product in their lineup.
