VIDEO: Louis van Gaal says Manchester United has “a long way to go”

After opening last season with a loss and a draw, Louis van Gaal was pleased to start off the 2015-16 campaign with two straight wins. However, the Manchester United boss knows his team is far from playing at it’s full potential.

Van Gaal said it was unrealistic to have his side perform to the best of it’s abilities so early in the season, with some players having just two weeks of preseason. As they continue to play more matches, he expects the team’s level of play to grow. Through two matches, United has just three shots on goal. However, they have scored two goals from those three shots.

Today at Villa Park, Adnan Januzaj’s goal in the first half was enough to win United all three points. It was the 20-year-old’s first Premier League start since February and his first goal since April of 2014, as the Belgian winger has been linked with a loan move away from Old Trafford. When asked about Januzaj’s performance after the match, Van Gaal said he still must improve his overall play is he wants to play for Manchester United.

He scored a wonderful goal, but there is more than scoring a goal and there are a lot of aspects that you have to show as a player of Manchester United. It is very important that he scored a goal and I am very happy, but he has to show more. He had a lot of ball losses, but not only him, also his fellow players.”

When asked about the transfer news surrounding David de Gea and Pedro, LVG would not make a comment, but promised to alert the media if any deals were made. How kind, Louis.
