Otamendi, 27, has been linked with a move to Manchester United all summer but Louis van Gaal has never publicly declared his interest in the central defender and he now looks set to join their neighbors. Otamendi is an imposing center back who is also composed on the ball and he will likely partner Vincent Kompany in the heart of City’s defense. But after the impressive start to this season by City’s backline, and in particular young central defender Eliaquim Mangala who has been key to two shutout wins, Otamendi may have to wait for a chance to show what he can do.
Separate reports claimed that Mangala would be heading to Valencia on loan as part of the deal for Otamendi, but that doesn’t appear to be happening. It is believed that City have instead negotiated with Valencia over the fee for signing their former striker Alvaro Negredo.
We bought you the news earlier via the Daily Mirror, David de Gea could stay at Manchester United this season with Real Madrid offering him a $18 million signing on fee to sit tight at Old Trafford and join them on a free transfer next summer. De Gea, 24, has just one-year left on his current deal with the Red Devils and has watched their first two games of the season from the sidelines as Van Gaal claims he is not focused enough to play. A stunt like this is well within De Gea’s rights but will likely infuriate United’s directors, manager and fans.
Finally, the Liverpool Echo claims that Everton is interested in signing Ukraine playmaker Andriy Yarmolenko. The 25-year-old currently plays for Dynamo Kiev but he has already publicly stated he wants to move on from the only club he has ever played for. At 6 foot 2 inches he is a towering attacker but is great on the ball which Roberto Martinez praised following the Toffees being knocked out by Kiev in the Europa League last 16 in 2014-15.
