Report: Everton reject third Chelsea bid of $45 million for John Stones

Chelsea just won’t give up, will they?

Sky Sports in the UK are reporting that Everton turned down a third bid for their defender John Stones on Tuesday, with Chelsea apparently offering $45 million for the 21-year-old.

Jose Mourinho has made his admiration for Stones public, irking Everton boss Roberto Martinez in the process, and following Chelsea’s defensive implosion in their humbling 3-0 defeat to Manchester City on Sunday, you can understand why the Blues would want to bolster their backline considerably.

Stones is an England international and has now had two and a bit seasons in the PL under his belt at a very young age.

His ability to play the ball out of the back has won him plenty of plaudits and previous question marks regarding his physical strength seem to have dissipated following his maturation over the past 12 months.

With Chelsea’s long-time center back and captain John Terry, 34, substituted at half time of the defeat to City, many believe Mourinho was purposely sending a message to Chelsea’s owner Roman Abramovich that he needs defensive reinforcements, and fast, if the west London club are to successfully defend the PL title they won last season.

You’ve been warned: expect to hear the terms “Chelsea,” “Stones,” and “Everton” plenty more times before the transfer window slams shut on Sept. 1.
