Tony Pulis frustrated with ongoing Saido Berahino transfer saga

West Bromwich Albion is yet to win a game in the Premier League this season, falling to defending champions Chelsea 3-2 today at The Hawthorns.

Despite the side’s troubles, most of the post-match talk was centered around a player who wasn’t even on the bench for the Baggies today, Saido Berahino.

West Brom’s top scorer from last season was left out of Tony Pulis’ side today as talks of a possible transfer away from the club continue to swirl.

Berahino reportedly went to Pulis before the match and told him he was not in the right frame of mind, as his manager decided to go with new signing Salomon Rondon as the team’s lone striker.

After the match, Pulis was clearly angered with all the off-the-field gossip surrounding Berahino, and said the young player needs to be protected

Why are we talking about Saido [Berahino] today?

We’re talking about Saido because of the transfer window. Everybody here today should be talking about the game and this wouldn’t be an issue. It can be disruptive and has been.

He is fine, there’s no problems but it’s the transfer window which causes the problems. He needs to be protected, there’s loads of stuff going on in his mind, no just one club but 15 clubs. No-one should have this problem.”

Berahino burst onto the scene at The Hawthorns last season, scoring 14 goals in the Premier League and 20 in all competitions for the Baggies. However, he has constantly been linked with a move to a bigger club, and now it’s taking a toll on the striker.
