VIDEO: Pellegrini vows to keep Manchester City an attacking team

Manuel Pellegrini is a manager who prides his teams on playing free-flowing, attacking football. Through three matches this season, Manchester City has done just that, leading the Premier League with eight goals while sitting atop the table with a maximum nine points.

However, it’s the City defense that has been a major talking point as the Citizens are yet to concede a goal, shutting down the Everton attack in a 2-0 win today at Goodison Park.

In his post-match interview, Pellegrini said it was important to stay strong on defense, but was adamant that his Manchester City side was still an attack-minded team.

It was difficult for Everton to create chances, and they normally create. The two games before that they played, they scored five goals in two games, so it’s important to keep a clean sheet again.

It’s important, but also last season in the last six games we kept four clean sheets.

I repeat, we are going to continue our style of being a scoring team, an offensive team, and if you want to do it, it’s important to know how to defend.”

David Silva has led Pellegrini’s attack, with the Spanish midfielder putting in three brilliant performances to start the season. Almost all of the offense goes through Silva, who is extremely clever and seemingly always makes the right decision with the ball.

On the defensive end, the center-back pairing of Vincent Kompany and Eliaquim Mangala is much improved, as the two both had relatively disappointing campaigns last season. Whether Pellegrini wants to focus on fluid offense or stout defense, if City continues to play the way they have been, they’ll be very hard to beat.
