Manchester United deserved to pick up all three points on Saturday morning in a 0-0 draw against Newcastle United, but that doesn’t mean much to Juan Mata.
The Spanish midfielder was one of several Red Devils to be flummoxed by a mixture of bad misses, blocked shots and the heroics of Newcastle goalkeeper Tim Krul.

Mata took to his blog on Monday to lift the lid on the massive disappointment he felt after the Old Trafford side failed to find the net.
“We weren’t able to get another three points in the Premier League. The goalless draw against Newcastle last Saturday left us with a bad taste; personally I think we deserved to win but that doesn’t count… In my opinion the team had spells of our best football so far this season, and we created enough chances to score at least one goal. From a personal point of view, I felt very comfortable and was able to participate a lot, but I went home enraged for not being able to win, same as my team-mates.”
It was the first time United failed to claim all three points this season, and came after the side played midweek against Club Brugge in the UEFA Champions League. Honestly, the draw shouldn’t be a massive concern for the club, which was surely just unlucky and deserved to score four or five in holding close to 3/4 possession and the majority of chances against NUFC.
With all Premier League clubs playing midweek between European play and the League Cup, expect United to rebound in a big way during a tough trip to Swansea City on Sunday.
My favorite part about Mata’s blog entry, though? He signs it:
