Everton has rejected multiple bids from Chelsea for the prized center-back, including Chelsea’s most recent offer of $47 million. However, now it seems that Stones is intent on making the move go through.
When asked about the ongoing transfer rumors today, Everton boss Roberto Martinez refused to give any details on the situation.
There is nothing to comment on that.
Once more, it is always the same question and always the same answer. The only thing that matters now is the game we have in front of us. There is nothing to announce or discuss.
I know it is your job to keep asking the same question and unfortunately it is my job in this case to always give you the same answer.”
The Toffees have insisted that Stones is not for sale, despite the massive offers Chelsea has been submitting for the English international. But now with Stones essentially asking out at Goodison Park, the club may just be holding out for the right price.
Some believe Everton is looking for a transfer fee of around $60 million for Stones, which would make him the second-most expensive defender in football, behind Paris Saint-Germain’s David Luiz, was was sold from Chelsea for around $75 million.
