Roman Abramovich. John Henry. Donald Trump?
Trump could have joined the list of powerful billionaires who own a soccer club, but the presidential-hopeful has denied he is interested in purchasing a team, at least for now.
[ REPORT: Manchester United planning bid for Robben ]
The New York Post reported earlier this morning that Trump was interested in buying Argentinian side Atletico San Lorenzo de Almagro, a club known for being Pope Francis’s favorite team.
However, Trump took to Twitter to deny the report, saying he’s “never even heard of the team.” He’s probably a bit too busy right now to be thinking about football anyway.
A phony story that I am trying to buy a soccer team in Argentina is untrue. Never even heard of the team—no interest! http://t.co/YCQAQBarfj— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) August 28, 2015
Trump, along with business partner Alessandro Proto, previously lodged a $100 million bid to buy Colombian club Atletico Nacional. However, the bid was denied and Trump refused to meet the club’s $150 million counter-offer.
For now, the Donald is keeping his focus on his presidential campaign. But it is quite fun to imagine Trump in the owner’s box, sacking his manager after every loss…
