- Tottenham’s Christian Eriksen is out with a knee injury
- Roberto Martinez has won just one of his five PL games against Mauricio Pochettino
- Tim Howard leads the Premier League with 16 saves through three matches
The last time Tottenham failed to win one of the opening four matches of a season was in 2008, a feat they will hope to avoid when Everton travels to White Hart Lane on Saturday (Watch live, 12:30 p.m. ET on NBC and online via Live Extra).
Spurs have just two points through three matches, taking leads against Stoke City and Leicester City before conceding late to finish with draws. Harry Kane has yet to get off the mark this season, as many believe Tottenham’s star striker needs more help up-top. The club has tried to fix that problem, spending $30 million to bring in South Korean attacker Heung-Min Son. However, Son is yet to receive a work permit and will likely be unavailable for the match against Everton.
Playmaker Christian Eriksen will miss his second straight match with a knee injury, another tough break for Tottenham as the Danish international is their most skilled player on the attack.

Everton is coming off of a 2-0 loss to Manchester City, but despite the result, the Toffees played some good football and will have a positive outlook heading into Saturday’s match. John Stones is expected to start in the defense, despite the fact that he handed in a transfer request to the club earlier this week. Chelsea is keen to sign the young defender, but Everton has stood firm that the club is not willing to sell.
What they’re saying
Spurs Ryan Mason on letting leads slip away: “You can’t say we’re not scoring goals because in our last home game against Stoke we got two and then at Leicester we scored again. It’s just about being a bit stronger when we take the lead and seeing out games. We’re confident ahead of Everton now – we always are. Although we’ve let two leads slip in the last two games, we firmly believe that if we take the lead we’ll keep it next Saturday.”
Roberto Martinez on John Stones’ transfer situation: “As you can imagine, we cannot lose any players who are important to us. We cannot replace any player no matter what the money is. For another chairman, it could be that he might decide to take the money and run but, in our case, it’s a strong statement from our football club.”
Tottenham is in desperate need of a win, but they have looked far from convincing in the opening three matches of the season. Harry Kane will look to open his tally for the season, and could take advantage of a distracted John Stones. However, Roberto Martinez seems confident in his side, and should have them ready for a fight. Tottenham Hotspur 2-2 Everton.
