Teams and players are gearing up for the new A-League season set to begin in early October, but nobody told Brisbane Roar striker Jamie Maclaren that the new campaign hadn’t started yet.
Brisbane defeated Gold Coast All-Stars 10-0 behind a whopping eight goals from Maclaren, who only joined the club two months ago from Perth Glory. His first goal came in the 11th minute via a penalty, and he split four and four between each half, finishing in the 87rd minute.
The 22-year-old said after the match he couldn’t recall ever scoring eight goals in a match, not even in junior leagues or in training.
The opponents comprised of a cluster of semi-professional players from Australia’s northeast region. They were meant to play Sydney FC in a preseason match, but that was canceled, so Brisbane stepped in.
Brisbane begins the new A-League season on October 8 against Western Sydney.
