Antonio, 25, has never played in the Premier League but he has impressed in the Championship with Forest over the past two season’s and he has been involved in 29 goals (16 goals, 13 assists) in his last 50 matches in England’s second-tier.
The attacking midfielder can play on either wing or centrally, as the former Southampton and Reading star has finally made the step up to the PL.
Speaking to West Ham TV, Antonio revealed his delight that he’s returning to his hometown after a long journey throughout non-league and the lower divisions of English soccer.
“I’m buzzing and finally happy to be back in London at a massive club,” Antonio said. “I’ve always been around London and I came to a couple of games here when I was younger, so I’m happy to be finally here and at a club I watched when I was younger. I’ve worked my way from non-league and finally got to the Premier League to show what I can do, and if the fans don’t know me from the Championship, what I bring to the table is pace, power and goals, so hopefully I can do that this season. “
Antonio possesses raw pace and power, plus he also has a monster long-throw which could be very useful for the Hammers. He is hungry to succeed and will be a live-wire in attack for the east London club. As mentioned, Antonio is joined by three other new signings after Alex Song and Victor Moses arrived on loan from Barcelona and Chelsea respectively, plus Nikica Jelavic signed from Hull City for $5 million on a two-year deal.
Big day for Bilic’s boys as they’ve strengthened significantly, especially in attack where they had a few injuries, following two big away wins at Arsenal and Liverpool to start the season.
