Andre Ayew joined Swansea City in June on a free transfer, and just four matches into his Premier League career, he is already being heralded as the signing of the summer.
The 25-year-old Ghanaian winger has three goals and an assist in four matches this season, and was named Barclays Premier League Player of the Month for August.
Ayew has teamed up with Bafetimbi Gomis, who has four goals through four matches, to form one of the most potent attacking duos in the Premier League. The play of Ayew and Gomis has led Swans to a great start to the campaign, currently fourth on the table with two wins and two draws.
Speaking to Swansea City’s club website, Ayew gave all the praise to his teammates in helping him win the award.
It’s a great feeling, but this award comes from hard work and support by the whole squad. It’s more of a collective award rather than an individual award because we’ve worked very hard from pre-season until now. It shows there is a lot of quality and determination in this team.
The most important thing for me is the unity and team spirit we have shown. The guys have really helped me by telling me how the league works and by giving me confidence to do what I can do. I can work even harder and do more.
Those comments from Ayew show the great team spirit in Swansea’s side, which begins with manager Garry Monk. Monk himself was nominated for Manager of the Month, an award which was won by Manchester City’s Manuel Pellegrini.
Manchester City’s season has gotten off to a flying start with four wins through four matches. The Citizen’s ten goals scored lead the league, while they are also the only side yet to concede a goal. While many questioned City heading into the season, they have been far and away the best team in the league so far.Follow @KyleLynchFC
