With every passing week, it looks more and more likely Columbus Crew SC striker Kei Kamara will win the 2015 Major League Soccer Golden Boot. On Saturday night, Kamara helped his team to a massive 2-1 away victory over the Philadelphia Union by scoring two more goals, bringing his season total to 20 (the 16th player in league history to reach the mark).

It would be surprising to see a player, who had never scored more than 11 goals in a single season before 2015, suddenly hit 20 (with five games still to play) in his age-30 season, if only Chris Wondolowski (106 career goals) wasn’t currently two away from entering the top-five goalscorers in MLS history after having scored just seven career goals before his age-27 season.

With 72 career goals to his name, Kamara is close to a lock to reach the century mark (ETA: mid-to-late 2017 season) before his playing days are finished (Wondolowski had 68 career goals when he turned 31). As MLSsoccer.com’s Greg Lalas points out, 19 of Kamara’s 20 goals this season have been scored on his first touch. We’ll lovingly call that “the Wondo way,” and as we now know, that’s something that’s sustainable for years and years to come.
