Luke Shaw suffers serious leg injury against PSV

Manchester United’s return to the group stage of the Champions League got off to a terrible start when Luke Shaw was stretchered off of the pitch just 15 minutes into the game.

Shaw made a streaking run into the PSV box as Hector Moreno slid in to block his shot attempt.

The challenge was clean at first as Moreno got the ball, but then followed through hard with his trail leg, with Shaw getting caught under the tackle and going down in immense pain.

United players immediately signaled for the medical staff, and the look on Moreno’s face said it all. Replays were hard to watch as the injury looks to be very serious.

An air cast was placed on Shaw’s right leg and he was carried off the pitch after nearly ten minutes of stoppage.

It’s a massive blow for United, as Shaw has been in great form to start the season. After struggling with fitness and injuries last season, the 20-year-old defender has cemented his place in United’s back line, looking strong defensively and on the attack.

Well wishes for Shaw poured in through Twitter, including from his former club Southampton. Just minutes after being taken off the pitch, the former Saints man responded to the tweet, and said his road to recovery begins today.
