Real Madrid may’ve throttled Shakhtar Donetsk to open its UEFA Champions League group stage run on Tuesday, but the 10-time tournament champions suffered a shot to their back line.

Sergio Ramos has a dislocated AC joint, and Real is sorting out their options moving forward. Recovery time is generally based around whether the patient undergoes surgery, though going under the knife is geared toward more severe injuries.

Ramos is putting on a brave face, or at least a smiling one.

The statement is simple, but it isn’t comforting.

Following the tests carried out on Sergio Ramos today in the Sanitas La Moraleja University Hospital, the player has been diagnosed with dislocated acromioclavicular joint in his left shoulder. His condition will be evaluated.

Along with Pepe, Real has Raphael Varane and Nacho as center back reinforcements.
