Sakho has yet to make an appearance in this year’s Premier League campaign, named as an unused substitute three times, but the Frenchman called himself “a Liverpool soldier” upon signing the new deal.
“I work all the time 100 per cent,” Sakho said. “I try to stay professional and I give my best for this city and this club. It is important for me because every day when I wake up, I am very happy to come into the training ground with all the players.”
Deschamps expressed concern that Sakho had not played at all for the Reds, saying to RMC Sport, “The last match he played in was a friendly in early August. To find himself in the squad five weeks after being in full control of his capabilities, it is not possible….Obviously Mamadou is suffering from this situation because he is a competitor and it is frustrating for him.”
Sakho got his season debut yesterday in the 1-1 Europa League draw with Bordeaux. The Guardian reports that Sakho was considering all his options, but after meetings earlier Friday, the defender decided to commit. The contract is worth approximately $155,000 per week, according to the Daily Mail.
