Watford’s return to the Premier League has gotten off to a fine start, currently sitting in the top half of the table with nine points through six matches.
The Hornets have only lost once this season, to leaders Manchester City, and earned their second win of the season earlier today with a 2-1 victory over Newcastle.

Both of the goals against Newcastle were scored by Odion Ighalo, whose name has been on the scoresheet quite often for Watford. In his first season in the Premier League, Ighalo has been the Hornets’ top talisman, but his great run of form dates back to last season in the Championship.
After a slow start to the campaign last season, Ighalo finished third in the Championship with 20 goals. However, he finished the year on an absolute tear, scoring 16 goals in Watford’s final 18 matches. That ridiculous pace has carried over into the Premier League, as the Nigerian striker has four goals through six matches. That means Ighalo has scored 20 goals in his last 24 league appearances, making him one of the most effective strikers in the world.
Heading into the year, many though Watford captain Troy Deeney would be the man scoring all the goals, but Deeney has yet to find the back of the net in the Premier League. However, he was worked well with Ighalo up top and currently sits second in the league with three assists.

Watford has never stayed up in the Premier League for consecutive seasons, finishing dead last in each of the club’s previous two campaigns in the top flight. It’s almost impossible for Ighalo to keep up this pace of scoring 0.83 goals per game, but he’s been doing it for some time now, and has Hornets’ fans believing.
