Celta Vigo’s hot start to the La Liga season continued today with a huge 4-1 win over defending champions Barcelona.
The defeat is Barcelona’s worst result in the league since 2008, when they fell to Real Madrid by the same score.
It was also Barcelona’s first loss of the season, as Celta Vigo now jumps the Catalans on the table, sitting with 13 points through five matches.

Celta has yet to lose in La Liga this season, with their only blemish a 3-3 draw against newly promoted Las Palmas.
The home side got out to a two-goal lead in the first half, as the former Barcelona man Nolito scored against his old club before Iago Aspas doubled the lead just minutes later.
After the break, Aspas added another as Celta found themselves with a three-goal lead, something almost unheard of against Barcelona.
Neymar would pull one back for Barca in the 80th minute to make it 3-1, but Celta immediately answered with a goal two minutes later from John Guidetti, who joined the Spanish side this summer after failing to break into the Manchester City first-team.

Barcelona had only conceded twice in the opening four matches of the season, but were exposed by the quick counter-attack from Celta, as both of Aspas’ goals came on one-on-one breakaways from midfield.
After finishing eighth in La Liga last season, Celta Vigo has been brilliant to start the year and will be a certainly build on this huge result today.
