VIDEO: Giovinco can score (or assist) from anywhere

At what point is Sebastian Giovinco’s skill and brilliance simply no longer fair and officially punishable for holding an unfair advantage? Have we finally reached that point with this, his latest bit of ingenuity?

Reminder: This man is 28 years old, which means (theoretically) we get to watch him do things like that for another five to seven years in MLS.

Anyway, there’s a lot to unpack here, so let’s begin with the biggest question: Was it a shot or a cross? I’m leaning shot all the way — OK, like, 89 percent — because he floats it up to the back post with the outside of his right foot. A cross is probably whipped in with the inside of the foot, though lobbing it up as an in-swinger makes it impossible to defend because the slightest of touches — from attacker or defender — puts it over the line.

Which is exactly what happened. Jonathan Osorio was credited with the goal, and rightly so. That said, if you’re Osorio, why on earth would you destroy what very well could have been the Goal of the Year? I’m absolutely positive — like, 76 percent — it was going in and didn’t need the touch. Alas, the Atomic Ant made a bit of MLS history anyway.
