Townsend left off Spurs’ Europa League squad after trainer incident

Andros Townsend‘s getting some time in the corner for bad behavior.

The Spurs player, 24, has been dropped from the club’s Europa League match against Anderlecht after an embarrassing incident at White Hart Lane, where he pushed and berated Spurs fitness coach Nathan Gardiner.

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino says Townsend has apologized, but needed to be punished.

From the BBC:

“He did not train with the group. He is not available to be selected,” Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino said.

“It’s because of Monday. If you behave the wrong way you always need to pay.”

Townsend has a colorful personality, which is sometimes amusing, but incidents like this shed light on why the attacker doesn’t always shine through for club or country.

The 10-times capped England midfielder has been with Spurs’ senior side since 2009, but has been on loan with nine different clubs. Hopefully this is a learning experience for him.
