Salford plays in the Northern Premier League, equivalent to the seventh-tier of English football. Notts County plays in League Two, currently 59 places higher than Salford City.

While Ryan Giggs and Phil Neville were not able to attend the match, Giggs the Manchester United assistant manager and Neville an assistant with Spanish side Valencia, the rest of the ownership was part of a packed house of about 1,400 supporters at Moor Lane.

After the match, Gary Neville said it was an experience he would never forget.

That was unbelievable. It puts faith back into you, it’s what football is about. The FA Cup takes a battering but tonight epitomizes what it is all about. I’ve not had a moment like that for a few years.

While Salford City was celebrating, Notts County manager Ricardo Moniz called the result a “disaster,” and said his sides’ defending was a “disgrace.”
