Amavi was playing for France’s U-21’s in a EURO qualifier against Northern Ireland, forced off in the second half after his knee buckled going in for a challenge.

The injury looked to be bad, and today, Aston Villa confirmed the fears with Amavi out for the remainder of the year.

The 21-year-old joined Villa from French side Nice over the summer, and has started nine of their 12 Premier League matches this season.

New manager Remi Garde must now find a replacement for the injured Amavi, and could go with experienced options in Kieran Richardson or Joleon Lescott.

In Garde’s first match in charge at Villa Park, the Villans snapped an eight-game losing streak in the Premier League, earning a surprise 0-0 draw against leaders Manchester City. However, they still sit bottom of the table with just five points through 12 matches.
