The League Cup final could still be a Merseyside Derby, as Liverpool and Everton were drawn apart in Wednesday’s semifinal draw.

Liverpool gets a two-legged tie with Stoke City after beating Southampton 6-1 on Wednesday.

Everton will have to take down Manchester City in order to find its way to the final.

So there’s a chance for a Merseyside Derby, a big name showdown (MCFC vs. Liverpool), an USMNT pairing (Everton vs. Stoke), and a 2011 FA Cup final rematch (Stoke vs. Man City).

The first legs will be played during the week of Jan. 4, with the second three weeks later.

The Mirror has a solid quote from Jurgen Klopp on witnessing the draw:

“It was my first draw I saw live. Balls number 1,2,3 and 4 in a row.

“Are you sure?”
