Liverpool overcame a lightning-quick deficit to advance to the League Cup semifinals with a 6-1 win over Southampton at St. Mary’s on Wednesday.

Divock Origi scored a hat trick, Daniel Sturridge scored twice, and Jordon Ibe also tallied for the Reds.

The semifinal draw is held shortly after the game. Liverpool joins Manchester City, Stoke City and Everton in the final four.

For Southampton, Sadio Mane scored with just 44 seconds gone at St. Mary’s, as Ryan Bertrand sent a cross over a mass of players and Mane rose over Alberto Moreno to head home the opener.

Sturridge equalized in the 25th minute, collecting a long diagonal ball from Joe Allen and creating space to belt a low, hard shot past Maarten Stekelenburg

The next goal needed just one touch, as Emre Can looped a ball over the top to a streaking Sturridge. The star striker one touched a shot under a diving Stekelenburg.

‘Twas a simply incredible ball from the German, and a classy finish from Sturridge.

Then Origi made it 3-1 when he deflected Moreno’s belting first-touch shot from outside the 18. Stekelenburg claimed an attacker near him was offside to no avail.

Ibe sent Origi in for the fourth goal with about 22 minutes to play, and five minutes later Ibe was on the end of a Moreno cross. Origi added another late in the match.
