Sakho was the club’s leading scorer last season with 10 Premier League goals, and has started 12 of 14 league matches this year.

Manager Slaven Bilic said they must wait for some test results, but expects Sakho to miss a significant amount of time.

It will definitely not be a couple of weeks – four to eight, maybe longer.

We are waiting for the specialists. He has a bit of history with that thigh. It’s not a light one unfortunately.

Of course it’s a big blow. We are not bad in terms of quantity of injuries, but unfortunately they have happened to key players.

Sakho joins French playmaker Dimitri Payet on the sidelines, as Payet is out until February with an ankle injury. Enner Valencia has also missed a string of matches with an ankle problem, although he is expected to return before 2016.

After a strong start to the season, the Hammers are winless in their last four league matches, dropping to eighth on the table. Now without their three most dangerous players on the attack, Slaven Bilic has a tough task to keep the club in the top half of the league.
