FA Cup third round: Five all-Premier League clashes; Liverpool to Exeter

The draw for the FA Cup third round took place on Monday with five all-Premier League clashes set up, plus plenty of tasty ties with lower-league opponents potential banana skins for some of the big boys.

All 20 Premier League teams and 24 Championships teams entered the competition at this stage, with Tottenham hosting PL leaders Leicester City in the tie of the round. Watford host Newcastle, Southampton welcome Crystal Palace to St Mary’s, Sunderland head to the Emirates to play holders Arsenal and Manchester City head to Norwich City in the other all-PL matchups.

Jurgen Klopp‘s first taste of the FA Cup will come away at tiny Exeter City as Liverpool head down to Devon, while Everton will host the winner of a replay between League Two Dagenham & Redbridge and non-league Whitehawk FC.

Eastleigh, in the fifth-tier of English soccer, are only non-league team guaranteed a spot in the third round and they host Championship side Bolton Wanderers. Some of the PL’s other big boys have tough tests with Manchester United hosting perennial surprise package Sheffield United from the third tier, plus Chelsea host the winner of a replay between Leyton Orient and Scunthorpe United.
