Siblings playing on college teams at the same time is far from unusual. Sacha and Gordon Kljestan, Sam and Kristie Mewis, and the Farfan twins are among those who fit the bill.
But those playing on separate teams, let alone separate strong sides, are a bit more rare.
And then there are Katie and Sarah Klunder, sisters who won national championships in college soccer on the same day, in different leagues and locations.
Huffington Post picked out the story, as Katie’s Grand Valley State side won its NCAA D-2 title and Sarah’s Spring Arbor side collected an NAIA win:
Two daughters earning two gleaming gold trophies in one afternoon? As Katie phrased it, “It was a great day to be a Klunder.”
Fortunately for the Klunder parents, the games were both staged in Florida and didn’t overlap. A 27-mile journey did the trick.
