Eden Hazard and James Rodriguez in swap deal?

With a few weeks until the January transfer window opens, silly season is almost upon us.

This rumor is indicative of the craziness of the gossip pages but according to Spanish outlet Don Balon, Eden Hazard and James Rodriguez could be trading places sometime soon.

Take this with a pinch of salt but with Hazard, 24, thrown under the bus by Jose Mourinho yet again following Chelsea’s 2-1 defeat to Leicester City on Monday and the reigning Premier League Player of the Year having a season to forget amid Chelsea’s struggles, perhaps him wanting a move away from Stamford Bridge isn’t as far-fetched as it seems.

Plenty of whispers suggesting as much have been drifting in and around the circles of those in the know in West London.

According to Don Balon, Hazard is worth $110 million and James is worth $83 million with the latter failing to truly set the world alight since he arrived at Real Madrid last summer. The Spanish outlet also reports that Real don’t want to sell James and want to simply buy Hazard straight up. On current form they might be able to buy him for considerably less than $110 million as the Belgian winger has looked short on confidence and has failed to score in 24 appearances this season for Chelsea. Brief glimpses of hope have arrived but overall, Hazard is struggling to replicate or get anywhere near the form which saw him rip up the PL last season.

The Colombian forward, 24, has been out with plenty of injuries this season but has scored three times in nine appearances for Real and has started their last six games in all competitions. James is shaking off the rust and it is hard to see him being too thrilled about the prospect of joining Mourinho’s floundering side for a relegation battle. Right?

Right now, who would you take? Hazard or James? They are both the same age, play in similar positions and are the darlings of their respective nations. They have the world at their feet but would a change of scenery do them both good?

Even if this rumor is unfounded, that question is worth debating as two global superstars are far from their best.
