The reigning Premier League champions lost 2-1 to Leicester City on Monday, leaving Mourinho’s side just one point above the relegation zone and the latest performance saw the Portuguese coach feel “betrayed” by his players as he also threw Eden Hazard under the bus.

Seemingly looking for others to blame, despite admitting Leicester were good value for their win, Mourinho has now turned on… the ball boys.

With Chelsea 2-1 down with 20 minutes to go at Leicester’s King Power Stadium, it seemed like every time the ball went out of play on Monday it took an eternity for it to get back to a Chelsea player. That was due to many fans holding the ball and the ball boys hardly busting a gut to get it back to Chelsea’s players.

“They [Leicester] fought with everything, they defended with everything, and the ball boys were amazing too,” Mourinho said. “I say the point about the ball boys because it’s a disgrace for the Premier League, but I want to make it clear I don’t want that story to be in front of a result Leicester deserved.”

Mourinho and Chelsea’s season hit a new low with back-to-back defeats to Leicester and Bournemouth meaning the Blues sit 14 points off the top four after 16 games of the season. Unless the players start to perform and/or Mourinho starts to take a little more responsibility for these poor displays, the reigning champs could be in a relegation battle.

The situation is that dire for Chelsea but when in doubt, blame the ball boys…
