In it Mourinho, 52, was defiant as he stated he is “better than he thought” as a manager and that despite leading Chelsea to one point above the relegation zone with nine defeats in his opening 16 games of the season, the Portuguese coach believes he is better off with this experience under his belt.

The intriguing interview on the Clare Balding show on BT Sport 1 was filmed just days before he was fired by Chelsea and in it he was asked about the troubles of this season which has led to the manager of the reigning champs being fired.
“I was ready to live with it, to cope with it because [of my] maturity and experience… but I can imagine that if this happened in the beginning probably my career would have been even better,” Mourinho said. “This is an amazing learning process. About myself. About the players, I think I know everything. About myself, I still have some things to discover. And this period was important for me. I’m better than I thought.”
Expect plenty of extracts from this now seemingly posthumous interview to be shared all over the place in the next 24 hours.
