After a slow start to the season, Newcastle has found some life, winning consecutive games over Chelsea and Tottenham to climb out of the bottom three. It looked like Steve McClaren had lost the locker room, but his players have responded and their form has improved. The team’s leading scorer Georginio Wijnaldum has scored all seven of his goals at home, a good sign for the Magpies on Saturday.

Aston Villa won the opening match of the season against Bournemouth, and hasn’t won since. Their current run of 15 matches without a win is the longest stretch in club history, as the Villans sit at the bottom of the table with just six points on the season. Remi Garde was brought in to turn things around, but he’s been disappointed with the attitude of his players. Villa has a favorable schedule coming up, but if they want to hold onto any slim hopes of survival, they need to take all three points against Newcastle.

    What they’re saying

Newcastle manager Steve McClaren: “We always want to win the game in the first 20 minutes. But there are times when you need to wait until the very end and that goes for everybody, not just the players. We’ve got to make sure we remain patient and ensure we don’t let our opponents frustrate us.”

Aston Villa boss Remi Garde: “I don’t want to say stats are wrong but they are there to be destroyed. After these four games we will know more about the team. The next four games will be crucial. Let’s see what happens.”

Newcastle is in good form, and there’s no better team to face than Villa, who have lost a league-high 12 matches. The Magpies will look to feed off the home crowd and win their third straight against an Aston Villa side that is in complete disarray. Newcastle United 2-0 Aston Villa.
