It was clear from the get-go that Norwich would sit back and allow United to operate, and the Red Devils put together some solid combination play particularly on the left side of their attack.

Pushing through the middle found the ball in the back of the Norwich net, but both passer and shooter were offside in Marouane Fellaini and Wayne Rooney.

Yet while United dominated, Juan Mata gave up a dangerous free kick to the Canaries from about 22 yards out. The 36th minute curler from Robbie Brady was easily handled by the Red Devils.

Norwich would find the lead when a counterattack had the Red Devils looking messy at the back. Jerome darted between defenders to power a point-blank shot past David De Gea. 1-0.

Tettey made it 2-0 just after half off a similar break going the other way, as Norwich killed the Red Devils with the pair of counter attacks.

Martial cut the deficit to one when he pounced on a loose ball in the box to give United hope on a rain-soaked pitch in Manchester.
