Bolton manager Neil Lennon is under investigation by the club after a report in the Sunday Mirror claims that Lennon threatened violence against a woman.
According to the report, which was released this morning, Lennon was having an affair with a woman he met in a pub, but when she found out of his relationship with a third woman, she told Lennon she would inform his wife. Lennon then reportedly responded by verbally threatening to put a knife to her throat.
“In response to an article published in the Sunday Mirror on Sunday 20 December, Bolton Wanderers can confirm that the club are currently conducting an internal investigation regarding the matter concerned,” said Bolton in a statement. “The club will be making no further comment at this moment in time.”
The report also claims that Lennon attempted to pay the mistress to keep silent. “He made me fear for my life,” the Mirror quotes the mistress as telling the paper. “He set powerful lawyers on me – and I found a police officer challenging my behavior. But no one is too powerful to bury the truth.”
The club is in administration and is bottom of the Championship table.
