A roundup of all of the weekend’s action in Spain’s top flight:

Real Madrid 10-2 Rayo Vallecano
No, that’s not a typo. Real Madrid really did hang 10, which included nine unanswered to finish the game (they were down 2-1 after 12 minutes) on 9-man Rayo Vallecano. The goalscorers: Gareth Bale (4), Karim Benzema (3), Cristiano Ronaldo (2), Danilo (1). Watch all 10 goals here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here and here. With the victory, Los Blancos (33 points) have cut Barcelona and Atletico Madrid’s lead at the top of the table to just two points.
Malaga 1-0 Atletico Madrid
Speaking of Barca and Atleti, the former was idle in league play this weekend (they were busy winning the FIFA Club World Cup), while the latter blew a perfectly good opportunity to overthrow the Blaugrana, even if briefly, for the league lead. Instead, Diego Simeone’s side, which finished with 10 men, lost to 13th-place Malaga away from home. Charles scored the game’s only goal in the 86th minute. Fear not, though, Los Rojiblancos, for just-gave-up-10 Rayo are next on the schedule.
Real Sociedad 0-2 Villarreal
Denis Suarez scored twice to seal all three points for Villarreal, which moves them to within a single point of the fourth and final UEFA Champions League place, in just their third season back in the top division after being relegated in 2012.
Valencia 2-2 Getafe
Gary Neville is still in search of his first victory as a professional manager after his 9th-place Valencia drew 2-2 with 15th-place Getafe on Saturday. Valencia came back from a goal down on two occasions, but failed to make their hefty advantages in both possession and chances created count. 22-year-old Paco Alcacer scored the first for Valencia and 20-year-old Santi Mina bagged the second equalizer.
