Troy Deeney confident Odion Ighalo will stay at Watford

Watford striker Odion Ighalo has been lighting up the Premier League with 14 goals on the season, just one behind leaders Jamie Vardy and Romelu Lukaku.

Ighalo’s form has led Watford all the way up to eight on the table at the midway point of the season, amazing for the newly promoted club that has finished dead-last in each of their previos two Premier League campaigns.

To Ighalo’s teammates, it’s not surprise the striker is near the top of the scoring charts, as his run of form dates back to last January in the Championship. In the 2015 calendar year, Ighalo has scored 30 goals, more than any other player in all of England’s top four tiers.

His form has been so good that rumors have been surfacing that Watford may sell the striker in January to top team for a nice payday.

However, according to Watford captain and Ighalo’s strike-partner Troy Deeney, he won’t be going anywhere.

He ain’t going in January.

If no one wanted any of our players we’d be crap. So, come and want him as much as you want but I know Gino [Pozzo, the Watford owner] and it just wouldn’t make sense. Why would he sell a striker and want to stay in the league?

The value of selling Odion for, what would he be worth? £20m, £25m? Or staying up and getting £200m? Simple business maths, he’s not going to sell him. Odion doesn’t come in saying: ‘I want to leave.’ He’ll just keep doing what he’s doing. We just laugh at it.

Ighalo has scored in six straight matches for the Hornets, bagging seven goals over the span. His partnership with Troy Deeney has been lethal, as the duo has scored 20 of Watford’s 24 goals on the season.
