Villa manager Garde wants Chelsea’s “special” Remy on loan

Remi Garde isn’t shy when it comes to his January transfer plans.

Many managers take the old “don’t talk about other club’s players” when it comes to transfer season, but Aston Villa manager Garde is in a different place.

For one thing, Garde’s club is struggling mightily, 11 points back of safety at the season’s midpoint. Additionally, he knows the guy he’s trying to woo to Villa Park.

That’s Chelsea forward Loic Remy, who was coached by Garde at Lyon in the mid-2000s. From the BBC:

“Loic is special because he knows the country and the league and he would be an interesting player for the team,” Garde said.

“He is part of some players I’ll try to attract to Aston Villa for sure.”

Remy has three goals in 14 appearances for Chelsea, with just one of those tallies coming in his eight Premier League matches. He scored nine goals for the Blues last season, five less than he tallied for Newcastle in his breakout season of 2013-14.

Remy is a no-doubt upgrade to the Villa strike corps, and could pair well with Jordan Ayew, Rudy Gestede or another player in the Villans’ attack.
