Southampton’s Koeman happy to let wantaway players rot for misbehavior

Southampton has yet to replicate its table standing from last season’s surprise run to Europe, and the Premier League club needs its best players to step up if it wants to avoid a relegation fight.

So it goes without saying that Saints aren’t interesting in selling players like Sadio Mane and Victor Wanyama, regardless of what the pair wants from their careers.

Mane caught grief for being late for last week’s match, and was dropped from the starting lineup, while Wanyama picked up a pair of yellows to Koeman’s chagrin.

Act up, and you won’t be transferred, Koeman says. You also won’t play.

From the BBC:

Koeman said if players thought misbehaving would make it easier to leave he would “put them in the stands until the end of their contract”.

He added: “In my opinion, that’s not the way you have to do your job as a football player.”

He also says he doesn’t expect those players to leave the club. Don’t mess with Big Ron.
