Thursday’s Transfer Rumor Roundup: Subotic to Liverpool, Shaarawy to Bournemouth

According to the Daily Mirror Jurgen Klopp could return to former club to snap up center back Neven Subotic.

Subotic, 27, was influential for Klopp during Dortmund’s two Bundesliga titles in 2011 and 2012 but the player who spent much of his childhood in the U.S. after fleeing from Bosnia in the 1990s has only played four times for Dortmund this season due to several back injuries. Klopp is desperate to add an experienced central defender in January with his current options depleted after Martin Skrtel, Dejan Lovren, Mamadou Sakho and Kolo Toure were all injured in recent weeks. Maybe Subotic, who Klopp also took with him from Mainz to Dortmund, could use the guaranteed minutes to get himself back to full fitness and also do Klopp a big favor in the process?

Leicester City are looking to spend some cash in January, according to the Daily Mail, with Red Bull Salzburg defender Martin Hinteregger on their radar. The report claims that the Austrian defender would cost the Foxes upwards of $16 million and that Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United have been keeping a close eye on the 23-year-old in recent seasons. Leicester were said to be in for Dynamo Kiev’s Austrian defender Aleksandar Dragovic but have been put off by his hefty price tag.

Bournemouth have made an audacious bid for AC Milan striker Stephan El Shaarawy according to Sky Sports. The Italian international, 23, is currently on loan at AS Monaco in Ligue 1 and doesn’t appear to have a future at the San Siro. The Cherries, who failed to win or score in their three games over the festive period have had serious injury problems in attack this season with Callum Wilson and Max Gradel both going down with long-term knee injuries. Eddie Howe has already moved to bring in AS Roma forward Juan Iturbe on loan until the end of the season. Maybe he’ll move back to Serie A to try and snap up another loan signing…

A player said to be heading to Serie A is Manchester United’s Marouane Fellaini with the Belgian midfielder, 28, repeatedly linked with a move to AC Milan. Gazetta dello Sport is reporting that Inter Milan, Juventus and Roma are also interested in the lanky attacker who has failed to nail down a regular spot in Louis Van Gaal‘s side at United. Ahead of Belgium’s 2016 European Championship campaign this summer Fellaini will want to be playing regularly and he’s certainly not getting that at United. According to reports a permanent deal will be the only way he leaves in January.
