Bournemouth 3-0 Norwich: Cherries crush Canaries

Bournemouth comfortably dispatched a lackluster Norwich City side 3-0 at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday with Eddie Howe‘s men dominating from start to finish.

Dan Gosling headed home in the first half and Charlie Daniels stroked home a penalty kick to make it 2-0 before new signing Benik Afobe notched his first goal for the club and completed the scoring.

With the win the Cherries leap above Norwich and move on to 24 points, while the Canaries still have 23 points after back-to-back defeats.

Bournemouth dominated the early proceedings with Afobe going close and the Cherries took a deserved lead in the 10th minute following terrific build-up play.

A flowing move on the left ended with Marc Pugh cutting inside and floating in a teasing cross that Gosling headed home. 1-0.

The Cherries should have had a penalty kick when Daniels surged in to the box and Russell Martin looked to have clearly hauled him down with both hands but no PK was awarded.

Bournemouth dominated the first half and Harry Arter‘s through ball found Afobe on the edge of the box and goalkeeper Declan Rudd took him out. Amid cries of a red card from the home fans, referee Bobby Madley booked Rudd with two Norwich defenders covering.

After pushing hard with at the start of the second half, Bournemouth deservedly doubled their lead after winning a penalty. Vadis Odjidja-Ofoe grabbed Pugh as he rushed into the box and Daniels hammered home the spot kick off the post and in. 2-0.

The home side continued to pour forward at every opportunity and Steve Cook forced a superb stop from Rudd as he headed towards the top corner.

Late in the game the Cherries sat back and soaked up Norwich pressure and then scored a third as new signing Afobe netted his first goal for the club as he volleyed home Daniels’ superb cross. If this was a boxing match it would’ve been stopped before the hour as the Cherries cruised to a classy win.
