Firstly, Lionel Messi suffered an injury scare as the recently crowned FIFA Ballon d’Or winner — his fifth World Player of the Year title — was forced off at half time with a hamstring injury.

However, breath easy Barca fans, the club confirmed in a statement on Monday that the injury wasn’t as serious as first feared.

“Medical tests on striker Lionel Messi this Monday morning have revealed great news. It turns out that the Argentine has not got a hamstring injury and has just taken a bit of a knock.”

Messi may not be risked on Wednesday when Barca play Athletic again in the Copa del Rey quarterfinal first leg, but the way his strike partners are carrying on, there’s no need to worry.
