Striker-thin Crystal Palace could be thinner once the Football Association reviews the vicious elbow Connor Wickham threw at Spurs defender Jan Vertonghen this weekend.

Wickham, 22, was making a run off a corner kick when he hammered his elbow into Vertonghen’s face. It wasn’t caught by officials, and Wickham was subbed off soon after.

The FA charged Wickham on Monday, and the forward has to respond to the charge by Tuesday. He could face a three-match ban for the incident.

Palace has been linked with strikers all window, and even further back. Wickham has been bright at times, but lacked finish. Dwight Gayle, Marouane Chamakh and Fraizer Campbellare among the striker options.

Struggling Palace would be without Wickham for Stoke in the fourth round of the FA Cup, then in Premier League matches home to Bournemouth and away to Swansea City.
