With five days left in the transfer window, Liverpool is trying to force the hand of Schalke when it comes to Joel Matip.
The 24-year-old Cameroonian center back is out of contract after the season, and Schalke wants the big man to stick around. Matip wants to go, and the Reds are adding fuel to the fire.
Matip is in demand from several clubs, and Schalke has been rumored to be chasing USMNT defender John Anthony Brooks as a possible replacement.
It appears Liverpool have taken their interest one step further by tabling a bid for Matip and Sky in Germany also reports that the player, who has scored three goals in the Bundesliga this season, has told his club he wants to leave.
Definitely one to monitor, as Klopp will have been quite familiar with Matip from the manager’s time at Borussia Dortmund. BVB was 5W-5L-3D against Schalke in the time both Matip and Klopp were in the fold at the respective sides.
