KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) Sporting Kansas City has loaned 18-year-old defender Erik Palmer-Brown to FC Porto, one of the most prestigious clubs in Portugal, for the remainder of the year.
Palmer-Brown is considered one of the rising stars of American soccer. He already has played in 13 matches for Sporting KC since signing as a homegrown player in August 2013, and at 17 years, 24 days was the youngest defender to start a Major League Soccer match.

A native of suburban Kansas City, Palmer-Brown has been chosen for U.S. national teams at various junior levels. He was part of the U.S. squad that competed at the under-20 World Cup last June.
FC Porto has finished in the top three of the Primeria Liga every year since 1976-77.
