Like Chelsea forward Diego Costa, Watford’s Troy Deeney is a big, strong forward.

How Deeney reacts to the physical play that comes with being a big, strong forward is a bit different.

The petulance of Costa was on display again in Chelsea’s 0-0 draw with Watford at Vicarage Road, and the Hornets’ captain could only laugh at the Spanish-Brazilian forward.

From a post game interview on BT Sport in England:

“It’s new age football, a little touch and everyone goes down. The ref spoke to him, and then spoke to him again and I just asked the ref was he going to book him. If he played in Sunday league he’d probably get laughed at.”

He’s probably right. Costa is a villain of the highest on-field order, and you have to wonder if anyone has any respect for him as peer. He’s certainly a great striker.

Also, this is how you make a comment on players diving and embellishing without looking like a xenophobe, Sam Allardyce.
