Aston Villa have had a rough go of things this season in the Premier League, highlighted by Sunday’s 6-0 defeat at the hands of Liverpool.

Not only were Remi Garde’s men thrashed in front of their home fans at Villa Park, but they also put up no fight in an extremely poor performance.

Speaking after the match, Garde said he was “humiliated” by the defeat, and was disappointed in the lack of effort from his players.

I feel humiliated. I am sorry for the fans who came to Villa Park. The first two goals were very difficult to digest and then my team did not play anymore. This is a bad feeling that we didn’t fight enough.

Veteran defender Joleon Lescott took to social media to apologize to the supporters, saying there was no excuse for a “lack of commitment for the 90 minutes.”

I’m not one for tweeting after games whether it’s a good, bad or indifferent result but I would like to apologise for the performance today, personally and collectively. Liverpool are and were better than us today but that doesn’t excuse mine and the teams lack of commitment for the 90 minutes. Again apologies to all the fans.

While some Villa fans may appreciate the honesty and apologies, they surely won’t appreciate the club’s current situation, glued to the bottom of the table and seven points behind 19th-place Sunderland.
