Bournemouth beat South Coast rivals Southampton 2-0 at the Vitality Stadium on Tuesday, as two set pieces proved the difference.
With the win Bournemouth move eight points clear of the drop zone, while Southampton stay on 40 points.
In a separate note, fourth official Kevin Friend was taken to hospital at half time after hitting his head on the dugout and reportedly knocking himself unconscious. The start to the second half was delayed as a replacement fourth official was found.

Saints went close early on as Charlie Austin drilled a shot just wide of the far post but Bournemouth grew into the game and Saints were outnumbered in midfield.

Bournemouth took full advantage of that and were snapping into the tackles and the Cherries took the lead in the 31st minute.
Matt Richie’s free kick from the right was straight at Fraser Forster but instead of catching the ball he palmed it out to Cook and he sent an acrobatic volley from close range in. 1-0 to the home side and the fans loved it.

Austin hobbled off midway through the second half and was replaced by Pelle who sent a tame effort wide and then Bournemouth sealed all three points.
10 minutes from time another Ritchie free kick from the right saw Afobe nick in front of his marker and head home past a stranded Forster. 2-0 to the Cherries. Game over.
