Despite presiding over one of the worst seasons in Newcastle United history, Steve McClaren still has the manager’s chair at St. James Park.
The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards says Newcastle will be canning McClaren, and may be waiting on the interest of potential big-name replacements.
McClaren is still set to lose his job before Newcastle travel to Leicester City on Monday night, but has been kept in charge of training sessions while the club search for a suitable replacement.
Those training sessions must be a real hoot.
Newcastle lost to Bournemouth 3-1 on Saturday, but the real issue was how listless and disorganized most of the team looked despite giving a public backing of their manager.
And while Ayoze Perez gave a lukewarm boost to his boss, reporters like Edwards claim that McClaren’s job is as good as gone.
The Magpies travel to Leicester this weekend before a massive pair of matches against fellow strugglers Sunderland and Norwich City. If they are thinking change, it would be advisable to give that manager a game to see his charges before that pair of duels.
Any change, it seems, would do Newcastle good.
